Renowned Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has issued a public apology following an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday, August 5, 2025.
In a statement personally signed on Friday, K1 expressed regret over the controversy while firmly denying allegations that he carried alcohol in a flask during the encounter with airport security officials.
“The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was, to say the least, unfortunate,” the statement read.
Clarifying his side of the story, K1 explained that he suffers from chronic dehydration, and on medical advice, he carries a personal water flask at all times.
“Contrary to the negative narrative being circulated in some quarters, the flask contained only water — not alcohol,” he said.
He further explained that the flask was empty during two rounds of security checks and was only filled with water at the airport lounge prior to his movement towards the tarmac.
“At no point was I onboard the aircraft, let alone deboarded,” he clarified, adding that CCTV footage at the terminal would support his claims.
The Fuji legend extended his apology to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), airline operator ValueJet, and the general public.
“I acknowledge and deeply regret the concerns that arose from the incident. It was never my intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols,” he said.
K1 reaffirmed his loyalty to Nigeria and his commitment to upholding the image he has built over five decades in the music industry.
“I would never do anything to tarnish the legacy I’ve spent a lifetime building,” he said, adding that he remains dedicated to his role as a cultural ambassador for Nigerian music.
He also appreciated the unwavering support from his fans during the period.
