The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said the decision on the next steps regarding fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate or KWAM 1, will be left to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

NCAA’s spokesperson, Michael Achimugu, disclosed this in an interview with Saturday Beats on Friday, in reaction to KWAM1’s public apology following his altercation with ValueJet officials at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

In a statement personally signed by him, KWAM1 described the incident as “unfortunate,” insisting it was never his intention to disrupt flight operations or breach aviation rules. The altercation, which was caught on video and widely shared online, appeared to show him obstructing the aircraft’s take-off, sparking public outrage.

Following the viral footage, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the NCAA imposed a six-month domestic flight ban on the singer, while the pilots involved were suspended and placed under investigation. The NCAA also petitioned the AGF and the IGP, demanding KWAM1’s probe and possible prosecution.

Achimugu, however, noted that the NCAA has no prosecutorial powers.

“We have referred the case to the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation, who are better positioned to determine and communicate the next steps,” he said, adding that he had yet to see the singer’s apology.

Keyamo, in a WhatsApp message to Saturday Beats, confirmed seeing the apology online but said it would be deliberated upon.

“We have just seen this on social media like everyone else. We have not had the opportunity to deliberate on it,” he said.

Police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said he would verify whether the petition had been received but had yet to respond at the time of filing this report. Efforts to get a comment from the AGF also proved unsuccessful.

In his apology, KWAM1 said the flask in his possession during the incident contained only water, explaining that he suffers from chronic dehydration and had filled the flask at the lounge before boarding — a claim he said could be verified via CCTV footage.

Reaffirming his patriotism, the veteran singer said,

“I would never knowingly act in a way that could tarnish the image I have built over five decades or diminish the reputation of the country I love so dearly. To the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and my fans worldwide, I tender my unreserved and heartfelt apology.”

The viral video showed KWAM1 standing in front of the jet before it began moving, forcing him to duck to avoid being struck by the aircraft’s wing.
