The Ogun State Government has dismissed allegations by Senator Gbenga Daniel, former governor of the state, that Governor Dapo Abiodun is targeting him through quit and demolition notices on his properties.

In a statement signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, on Saturday, the government described Daniel’s claims as a “barefaced lie” aimed at misleading the public and inciting disaffection.

Daniel’s media office had, on August 9, alleged that the governor was abusing power by issuing notices on his Sagamu residence, Conference Hotels Limited, and a hotel annex, describing it as “malicious and vindictive” political persecution.

The state government, however, clarified that the notices were part of a routine development audit and urban renewal exercise in the Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu Government Reservation Areas (GRAs) — a process which includes verifying planning permits and land titles for all properties, whether residential or commercial.

“Senator Daniel’s building happens to be within the Sagamu GRA and was served like many other structures in compliance with the Town Planning Law and Regulations of Ogun State. This process is not new; it existed and operated even during his tenure as governor,” the statement said.

The government maintained that no one is above the law, urging the senator to present his property documents to the relevant agency for verification instead of resorting to “cheap blackmail” and politicising a lawful procedure.

“Governor Abiodun holds Senator Daniel in high esteem. If anyone is after him, it is certainly not the governor,” the statement added.
