Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly stormed the Green Legacy Hotel, situated within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, arresting several youths suspected to be involved in internet fraud.

The raid, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, was said to have targeted a pool party being held at the facility. Witnesses said the operation caused panic, with a viral video from the scene showing guests fleeing amid the sound of gunshots.

Sources told our correspondent that operatives from the EFCC Lagos Zonal Command carried out the operation, seizing more than 20 luxury vehicles and other valuables. The exact number of arrests has yet to be officially confirmed.

Sunday’s incident came barely five days after the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 55 suspects during a similar raid at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state. One of the suspects was found in possession of two locally-made pistols.

An X (formerly Twitter) user, identified as A. Ayomide, recounted narrowly missing the raid, writing:

“Literally left my house past midnight to go to OOPL, got there and the crowd was too much. My friend and I didn’t like the setting, so we stayed at the car park. Left around 1:30 a.m., and 20 minutes later I got home to calls that EFCC was raiding OOPL.”

The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the raid but declined to provide further details.

“Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and let you know,” he said.

When contacted, EFCC spokespersons for both the Lagos Zonal Command and the Commission’s headquarters, Ayo Oyewole and Dele Oyewale respectively, said they were yet to confirm the details of the operation but promised to respond in due course.
