In celebration of his 56th birthday, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has donated 102 electricity transformers to 435 Community Development Associations (CDAs) across Ogun State.

The gesture, part of his Light Up Ogun State initiative, aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is aimed at improving electricity supply to underserved communities.

According to a statement by his Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, no fewer than 17 local government areas benefited from the donation. They include Yewa North, Ado-Odo/Ota, Yewa South, Abeokuta North, Ifo, Obafemi Owode, Ewekoro, Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu, Ipokia, Ijebu North East, Ikenne, Ijebu East, Remo North, Abeokuta South, and Ijebu North.

The transformers were formally handed over to representatives of the beneficiary CDAs during a ceremony organised by the senator’s friends, political associates, and supporters at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion, Ilaro, on Sunday.

Explaining the motivation behind the intervention, Senator Adeola said he had received numerous requests for transformers from communities, particularly after his periodic donations in recent years.

“It is a thing of joy for me to bring light to homes and businesses through the provision of transformers and their energisation,” he said. “Alongside transformers, my Light Up Ogun programme also includes installing solar-powered street lights in streets, markets, communities, and palaces, with over 16,500 poles already installed across Ogun West senatorial district and beyond.

“This is an ongoing process. Many communities are still in darkness due to damaged or inadequate power infrastructure, and my office is working to address these challenges.”

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, praised the senator’s achievements and contributions, noting that the celebration was a modest gesture compared to his service to the senatorial district.

The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, who is also the Ogun State Commissioner for Housing, Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, commended Senator Adeola for facilitating the transformers and reaffirmed the community’s appreciation for his efforts.
