The Ogun State Government has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Isese Day celebration.
Isese Day, introduced in 2023 after a motion by the Ogun State House of Assembly and subsequent approval by Governor Dapo Abiodun, is dedicated to celebrating the Yoruba religion, traditions, and cultural heritage.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the government said the annual commemoration underscores Governor Abiodun’s recognition of the role Yoruba heritage plays in the identity and cultural fabric of the state.
“Isese Day serves as an opportunity for adherents of the Yoruba religion to honour their ancestors, engage in traditional practices, and promote the values and teachings inherent in their spiritual beliefs,” the statement read.
The government further noted that the celebration not only strengthens unity among practitioners but also encourages wider societal appreciation of the Yoruba contribution to Nigeria’s cultural richness.
