The Ogun State High Court sitting in Sagamu has directed former Governor of Ogun State and serving Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, to submit property documents requested by the state government within two weeks.
The order was issued on Tuesday by Justice O.S. Oloyede during the resumed hearing of Suit No: HCS/371/2025 – Otunba Justus Gbenga Daniel & Anor vs. The Governor of Ogun State & Others.
Justice Oloyede ordered Daniel to comply with the government’s demand for documentation, which applies to him and other residents of the affected area.
At the proceedings, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, O.T. Olaotan, alongside R.B. Kadiri (DCL), A.E. Odukoya, and W.A. Onawole, informed the court that the state had filed an interlocutory injunction and counter-affidavits in response to Daniel’s application, and that these had been duly served on the Claimants’ counsel.
The defence further submitted that the matter was not ripe for hearing, and urged the court not to entertain the Claimants’ application at this stage.
However, counsel to the Claimants, A.O. Kotoye (SAN), supported by O.T. Are and A.O. Adeniyi, sought an extension of the interim order earlier granted by the Court, which was due to lapse after seven days.
In response, government lawyers argued that instead of seeking an extension, the Claimants should comply with the two-week grace period already announced by the state, during which other affected residents had been submitting their documents to the Ministry of Physical Planning.
After listening to both sides, Justice Oloyede directed parties to maintain the status quo and encouraged them to explore an amicable settlement. The judge also ordered the Claimants to take advantage of the government’s extension and furnish the relevant documents within the stipulated timeframe.
