The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Ms. Comfort Emmanson and an Ibom Air cabin crew member, Ms. Juliana Edward, for further investigation into an incident that occurred aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on August 10.

This was disclosed by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, during a question-and-answer session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders Meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.

Achimugu confirmed that he had spoken directly with Ms. Emmanson earlier in the day and that both she and the involved crew member had been invited to appear before the NCAA.

“I have spoken with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued investigation into the incident. They will be here tomorrow,” he stated.

He clarified that contrary to earlier reports, the pilot of the flight did not call in security personnel upon arrival in Lagos, noting that the situation appeared to have been resolved while the aircraft was still airborne.

However, he noted that Ms. Emmanson, who reportedly used the restroom after landing, was the last passenger to disembark.

Assuring the public of fairness and transparency, Achimugu stressed that the NCAA remains committed to establishing the full facts of the case.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, decried the rising cases of misconduct involving passengers, airport staff, and crew members, attributing the trend to a general decline in discipline.

He called for stricter adherence to professional standards across the sector, commending the NCAA for its enforcement measures and urging other aviation agencies to work closely with the authority to ensure safety and security within the industry.
