The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented Certificates of Return to newly elected senators and members of the House of Representatives who emerged victorious in the by-elections conducted on August 16.

The presentation ceremony took place on Thursday at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, with different National Commissioners handing the certificates to the lawmakers-elect.

Among the recipients were Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who was elected senator for Anambra South, and Joseph Ikpea of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of the Edo Central Senatorial District election.

Five members-elect of the House of Representatives also received their certificates. They are:

  • Barr. Omosede Igbinedion (APC), representing Ovie North East and Ovie South West Federal Constituency of Edo State;
  • Mukhtar Rabi’u Garki (APC), Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State;
  • Fidelix Bagudu (APC), Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State;
  • Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji (APC), Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State
  • Fola Oyekunle (PDP), Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible elections and urged the newly elected lawmakers to deliver on the mandate entrusted to them by the electorate.
