The curtains fell on the 2025 Ijebu North Summer Camp, a first-of-its-kind initiative held at St. John Bosco Nursery and Primary School, Oke Sopen, Ijebu Igbo on Friday, 5th of September, 2025.
The five-day event, which kicked off on Monday, September 1st, brought together over 500 children from primary and secondary schools across the local government. Designed and sponsored by Hon. Jenriyi Osinowo, the camp aimed at giving children a well-deserved break from the rigors of academics while also enhancing unity, fun and lasting memories.
“Life for children should not revolve around academics alone. There must be time to bond, play, and share exciting experiences that connect them to their roots,” Hon. Osinowo emphasized.
The camp featured a wide range of sporting and recreational activities, including football, table tennis, ludo, ayo olopon, scavenger hunt and dancing competitions.
In the football tournament, which was the centerpiece of the camp:
PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Ward 11 (Mamu) clinched the gold medal.
Ward 10 (Ako Gelete) finished runners-up after losing on penalties.
Ward 5 (Oke Agbo) secured third place by defeating Ward 4 (Omen).
SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Ward 11 (Mamu) also dominated, winning the final on penalties against Ward 5 (Oke Agbo).
Ward 5 (Oke Agbo) settled for silver.
Ward 3 (Omen) defeated Ward 10 (Ako Gelete) via penalties to claim bronze.
Representing the sponsor at the prize-giving ceremony, Bishop Ademola announced cash rewards for winners across categories:
FOOTBALL (PRIMARY):
1st – ₦100,000
2nd – ₦50,000
3rd – ₦40,000
FOOTBALL (SECONDARY):
1st – ₦150,000
2nd – ₦100,000
3rd – ₦50,000
Table Tennis (Secondary, Male & Female)
1st – ₦20,000
2nd – ₦15,000
3rd – ₦10,000
Ayo Olopon & Ludo (Secondary, Male & Female)
1st – ₦40,000
2nd – ₦32,000
3rd – ₦20,000
Dancing (Primary, Female):
1st – ₦10,000
2nd – ₦8,000
3rd – ₦5,000
In addition, all participants received lunch, certificates of participation, school bags, notebooks and writing materials.
The camp drew praise from community leaders and dignitaries. The Olokine of Ojowo, Oba (Dr.) Abdulrasheed Abayomi Banjo, described the initiative as “a remarkable feat and a model worth replicating.” He commended Hon. Osinowo for engaging the youth meaningfully and prayed for his continued strength and success.
Hon. Osinowo, in his closing remarks, announced that the Ijebu North Summer Camp will become an annual event, reinforcing his commitment to youth development, community bonding, and grassroots sports promotion.
The 2025 edition has left indelible memories, uniting children, igniting talents and setting the stage for a tradition of fun, learning and togetherness in Ijebu North.
