President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will return to Abuja on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, to resume official duties after cutting short his annual vacation.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday.
He said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has concluded his work vacation ahead of schedule and will return to Abuja on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, to resume official duties.”
Tinubu had departed Nigeria for France on September 4 to spend part of his annual leave, with plans to split the vacation between France and the United Kingdom.
While in Paris, he held a private luncheon with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. Both leaders reportedly reviewed areas of bilateral cooperation and agreed to strengthen partnerships in trade, security, and global stability.
This was Tinubu’s seventh trip to Paris since assuming office in May 2023, and his first since attending the BRICS Summit in Brazil and the TICAD9 conference in Japan earlier this year.
So far in 2025, the President has embarked on 15 international trips across 11 countries, ranging from high-level summits and bilateral meetings to state visits and official inaugurations.
Highlights of his diplomatic engagements this year include:
JANUARY – Attended the inauguration of Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama in Accra, followed by the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Summit in the UAE, where he held trade and energy talks with Gulf officials.
FEBRUARY – Participated in the 37th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa after a brief visit to France.
APRIL – Undertook a two-week working visit to France and the United Kingdom.
MAY – Attended the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City.
JUNE – JULY – Embarked on a landmark state visit to Saint Lucia, addressed CARICOM leaders in Castries, and later joined the BRICS Summit in Brazil.
AUGUST – Returned to Brazil for a two-day state visit and proceeded to Japan for TICAD9, where he met Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and pitched Nigeria’s investment prospects.
SEPTEMBER – Began a vacation in France and the UK, which he has now ended earlier than scheduled.
The President is expected to resume official duties immediately upon his return to Abuja, with focus on governance and preparations ahead of the United Nations General Assembly later this month.
