Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that he and former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have resolved their political differences in what he described as a decisive step towards lasting peace in the state.

In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Fubara acknowledged that the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu was a difficult period but noted that it provided the platform for reconciliation.

“In the course of the six-month period, Mr. President graciously brokered the peace process with all the parties successfully. Our Leader, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and I, as your Governor, have all accepted to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear Rivers State,” he stated.

The governor’s return to office follows the lifting of the emergency rule, which was declared in March 2025 after escalating political and legislative crises in the state. The intervention led to the suspension of the governor, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly.

The emergency lasted until mid-September, when democratic governance was restored. During the period, President Tinubu facilitated a peace accord between Fubara and Wike, bringing an end to their public rift.

Fubara’s announcement comes against the backdrop of lingering political tensions in Rivers, where rival factions loyal to both men had frequently clashed, deepening instability in the state.
