The Ogun State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Olóyè Akolawole Shoremi, has commended the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation for their consistent contributions to peace-building in the state.
Shoremi gave the commendation on Monday, September 22, during the commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Peace held at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Abeokuta. This year’s global theme was “Act Now for a Peaceful World.”
Addressing the gathering, Shoremi described the theme as a collective call to action, stressing that peace is not a passive ideal but a shared responsibility. “Building peace requires concrete efforts from individuals, communities, and governments to tackle the root causes of conflict and foster harmony,” he said.
In her remarks, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Mrs. Remi Ekundayo, reaffirmed the Corps’ dedication to safeguarding lives and property across Ogun communities. She underscored the importance of non-kinetic strategies in peace-building, particularly responsible parenting, which she described as vital to raising future generations that embrace peace.
The Founder of the Asiwaju Dapo Wahab Foundation, Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, and the Head of the NSCDC’s Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit, CSC Olusanya Olawale, also delivered lectures at the event. Wahab emphasized that peace cannot be achieved by a single institution alone, highlighting the roles of education, youth empowerment, rehabilitation, reintegration and community vigilance in achieving lasting stability.
CSC Olawale, on his part, warned against the dangers of peer pressure as a destabilizing force in society. He urged stakeholders to recognize and curb the signs of greed, disobedience, frustration, and depression that often drive social unrest, calling for stronger support in tackling undue pressure.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Prof. Saka Matemilola, the Orunto of Owu, High Chief Biodun Lasile, praised the Corps’ peace-building efforts. As Coordinator of the Olowu Mediation Center, he also stressed the centrality of justice to sustaining peace.
The event drew notable stakeholders from across Ogun State, who departed with a renewed pledge to strengthen partnerships for peace and stability.
