Former Deputy Governor of Osun State and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election on the platform of the APC.

Omisore made the announcement on Saturday through his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, signaling his return to the state’s political frontline.

He revealed that his formal declaration will take place on Monday, October 7, at the APC State Secretariat in Osogbo, under the theme “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams.”

The former lawmaker described his aspiration as a collective mission to rebuild and reposition Osun, urging party members and citizens to join hands with him in what he termed the “Osun Rescue Mission 2026.”

> “My beloved people of Osun State, after deep reflection and wide consultations, I have decided to formally declare my intention to contest for the Governor of Osun State in 2026 under our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is not just my mission, it is a collective one.

I believe strongly that together, we can restore hope, strengthen governance, and deliver a brighter future for every son and daughter of Osun,” Omisore wrote.

Political observers say Omisore’s declaration could reshape dynamics within the APC ahead of the 2026 polls, as the party strategizes to reclaim power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

A former senator representing Osun East, Omisore remains one of the state’s most influential political figures, with a career spanning over two decades in both legislative and executive arms of government.

His forthcoming declaration is expected to outline his development agenda and rally support for his vision to “restore Osun’s lost glory.”
