Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor made the announcement on Wednesday during a meeting with members of the State Executive Council at the Government House in Yenagoa.

Our correspondent in Bayelsa reports that the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere, alongside 18 other PDP lawmakers, also tendered their resignation from the party.

Governor Diri’s exit from the PDP comes barely 24 hours after his Enugu State counterpart, Governor Peter Mbah, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

As of the time of filing this report, Governor Diri has yet to disclose his next political move.
