The newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, officially assumed duty on Thursday at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Amupitan arrived at the INEC headquarters around 2:40 p.m., accompanied by the Acting Chairman, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, national commissioners, and the Secretary to the Commission. His assumption followed his swearing-in earlier in the day at the Presidential Villa.

The new chairman is expected to hold his first meeting with INEC directors and management staff shortly after completing initial office protocols.

Professor Amupitan, a distinguished legal scholar from Kogi State, is a Professor of Law at the University of Jos, where he began his academic career in 1989.
