A Kano State High Court on Monday adjourned the trial of former Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and seven others to November 26, 2025.
The Kano State Government had filed an 11-count charge against Ganduje and his co-defendants bordering on bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds running into billions of naira.
Also charged alongside the former governor are his wife, Hafsat Umar, Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited.
Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu adjourned the case following the inability of the defendants to conclude filing their pending applications. The judge directed all parties to file and serve their motions before the next sitting.
Earlier, counsel to the state government, Adeola Adedipe (SAN), informed the court that the prosecution was ready to open its case, noting that its witnesses were already present in court. He, however, urged the court to dismiss the defendants’ applications and allow the trial to proceed.
Counsel to Ganduje, his wife, and son, Mrs. Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, told the court that they had filed a further affidavit dated and filed July 17, 2025.
“My Lord, we are not ready. We served the parties, but service has not been effected. We seek an adjourned date,” she said.
Similarly, counsel to the 3rd and 7th defendants, Chief M. N. Duru (SAN), informed the court that they had filed a motion on further affidavit dated May 21, 2025, and also sought an adjournment.
Counsel to the 5th defendant, Mr. Sunusi Musa (SAN), told the court that his client had filed an application for a stay of proceedings before the Court of Appeal and was therefore not ready to proceed.
Likewise, counsel to the 6th defendant, Mr. Abubakar Ahmad, said a notice of preliminary objection had been filed, while counsel to the 8th defendant, Mr. Abdulrazaq A. Ahmed, noted that the matter was for mention since the earlier hearing date had been vacated.
