• Four major highways under reconstruction in Ifo–Sango Ota axis
• Ota–Lafenwa–Ayetoro Road captured in 2026 proposed budget
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has assured residents that his administration will not leave any part of the state undeveloped, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring even distribution of infrastructure across the three senatorial districts.
According to a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, the state government is currently executing major road projects simultaneously along four key highways in the Ifo, Sango Ota, and Idiroko axis.
Akinmade dismissed claims that the government had neglected some bad portions of roads in certain areas, describing such insinuations as “mischievous.” He explained that all parts of the state have been captured in the government’s development plans, including the Ota–Lafenwa–Ayetoro corridor, which has been incorporated into the proposed 2026 budget.
He emphasized that the state government is also rehabilitating the 140-kilometre Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway and reconstructing the Sango–Idiroko Road, both federal roads, due to their importance to the economic activities of the state.
“The areas being mostly complained about; the Ota–Itele–Lafenwa stretch, which spans about 24 kilometres, had been captured in the 2026 budget long before the social media hoopla,” Akinmade clarified. “This decision underscores Governor Abiodun’s determination to spread development evenly across the nooks and crannies of Ogun State, within the limits of available time and resources.”
He further listed the roads completed in the Ifo–Ado Odo/Ota axis as follows:
1. Ikorita Meta, Adenrele/Olose Titus Vespa Road (3.1km)
2. Old Bank Road–Orita Meta–Coker Junction, Olumo Spur Road (1km)
3. Olusegun Osoba, Toyin, Agbado Road (2.4km)
4. Sango–Ota–Oke Aro–Ojodu Abiodun Road (Yakoyo to Mr. Biggs) Phase 6 (1.6km)
5. Sango–Ota–Oke Aro–Ojodu Abiodun Road (Sango Roundabout to Ijoko Bridge) Phase 1 (8.5km)
6. Akute–Denro–Ishasi Road (4.8km)
7. Alhaji Kosoko Street, Ojodu Abiodun (1km, sectional rehabilitation/resurfacing)
8. Ajulo–Akute Road (3km)
9. Hercules–Giwa Road (1.3km)
10. Alagbole–Ajulo Road (1.7km)
11. Akute Bridge–Oke Aro Bridge (9.2km)
12. Atan–Lusada–Marogbo Toll Road (19.2km)
13. Lafenwa–Osi–Ikola Road (7km)
14. Bible College Road, Ota (3.89km)
Akinmade urged residents to disregard attempts by political opponents to mislead the public, noting that some detractors are trying to discredit the administration’s achievements through false narratives.
“In its determination to run a transparent and people-driven government, the Dapo Abiodun administration will never shy away from public scrutiny,” he stated. “However, we are aware of efforts by political detractors to tarnish the image of this government by inciting the public unnecessarily.”
He explained that many of the roads currently being rehabilitated had been in deplorable condition for years before the governor assumed office in 2019, noting that the administration inherited a massive infrastructure deficit across the state.
“Before Governor Abiodun came on board, roads such as the Sango–Ijoko–Agbado–Oke Aro–Lambe–Akute Road, Sango Ota–Papalanto–Abeokuta Road, and Sango–Idiroko Road were in terrible states of disrepair. Today, however, the story has changed, as residents in those areas have continued to express appreciation to the government for the progress recorded,” he added.
Akinmade disclosed that the government has achieved over 50 percent completion on the reconstruction of the 30-kilometre Sango–Ijoko–Agbado–Oke Aro–Lambe–Akute Road, the 140-kilometre Sango Ota–Papalanto–Abeokuta Road, and the 63-kilometre Sango–Idiroko Road.
He noted that the pace of work would have been faster but for the heavy rains experienced in recent months, while reaffirming the governor’s commitment to “work assiduously till the very last minute of his tenure.”
“At a time when Ogun State is attracting national attention for unprecedented achievements, such as a world-class airport, a global-standard sports complex, and the largest cement factory in West Africa, we must not lose sight of the many reasons to be proud of our state,” Akinmade said. “No part of Ogun will be left behind.”
