Tensions between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, appear to be easing as Akpoti-Uduaghan has extended an invitation to Akpabio to attend a project commissioning in her senatorial district.

The invitation, also extended to other senators, was conveyed in a personally signed letter by Akpoti-Uduaghan and read by Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary. The event, scheduled for Sunday in Ihima, Kogi State, marks her second anniversary in the Senate.

“In marking my second-year anniversary as a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for projects commissioning in Kogi State,” the letter read in part.

According to the letter, the venue and take-off point for the event will be Akpoti-Uduaghan’s residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene, Kogi State. Lawmakers traveling by air were advised to use the Obajana Airstrip before proceeding to Ihima by road.

Upon reading the letter, Senator Akpabio congratulated Akpoti-Uduaghan in advance, saying, “Congratulations in advance.”

The invitation is seen as a significant gesture of reconciliation following their high-profile dispute in February over seat reallocation in the Senate, which led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension on March 6.

Since her reinstatement on September 24, Akpoti-Uduaghan has gradually re-engaged with Senate leadership, participating actively in plenary sessions and contributing to deliberations, including the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

Her latest outreach, however, marks the most direct step toward mending ties with the Senate President since her return to the Red Chamber.
