The Ogun State Police Command has neutralised two suspected kidnappers and rescued a victim unhurt during a coordinated sting operation in the Onipanu area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the operation was launched following the abduction of Alhaji Hassan Atoyebi on October 27, 2025, around 8:14 p.m.

According to Odutola, the kidnappers invaded the victim’s residence, switched off the running generator to lure the occupants outside, and ambushed them.

“Unaware of the danger, the victim and another resident came out to check what they thought was a mechanical fault but were attacked by the assailants, who subsequently abducted Alhaji Baki Hassan Atoyebi,” the statement read.

The suspects reportedly carted away valuables, including a PoS machine, ₦900,000 in cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and keys to a Highlander and Corolla vehicle.

Shortly after the abduction, the kidnappers allegedly contacted the victim’s family and demanded ₦30 million ransom for his release.

Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, ordered a joint tactical operation involving officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Crime Section, Surveillance Team, Vigilante Group, So-Safe Corps and local hunters.

“The joint team traced the hoodlums to their hideout along a creek. Two of the kidnappers were neutralised during an exchange of gunfire, while others escaped with gunshot injuries,” Odutola said.

She added that the victim was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family, while his mobile phones and vehicle keys were recovered at the scene.

The Commissioner of Police commended the gallantry and synergy displayed by the combined security teams, assuring residents of the command’s resolve to sustain the ongoing onslaught against criminal elements.

“The Commissioner further reiterated that Ogun State will continue to be unsafe for criminals to operate in any form,” the statement added.

The latest rescue operation adds to a series of successful anti-kidnapping efforts by the Ogun State Police Command in recent months.

In July 2025, the command neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a gun battle in the Owode-Egba area after three residents were abducted from the Ajebo community. The victims were later rescued unhurt after a fierce exchange of gunfire.
