After years of frustration and endless traffic snarls, relief is finally on the horizon for motorists plying the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, as the ongoing reconstruction work has entered an advanced stage.

Engineers handling the project have intensified efforts, with visible progress recorded across several sections of the road. At Ewekoro, particularly in front of the Lafarge Cement Factory, the construction team is currently working on a rigid pavement, an engineering solution designed for durability and longevity. The stretch, which has long been a nightmare for commuters due to persistent damage and poor drainage, is now receiving a permanent fix through the use of high-strength concrete pavement.

Similarly, work is progressing steadily at Itori, where asphalt laying of the binder course is underway. The steady advancement of these works signals renewed hope for thousands of road users who rely on the Lagos–Abeokuta corridor for daily travel and commerce.

Observers say the development underscores Governor Dapo Abiodun’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure renewal across Ogun State. Despite inheriting a massive infrastructural deficit upon assuming office six years ago, the governor has consistently demonstrated determination to bridge the gap through strategic investments in roads, housing and public utilities.

The Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, a vital link between two major economic hubs in the South-West, remains a key project in the state’s infrastructure agenda. Once completed, it is expected to significantly enhance road safety, improve connectivity, reduce travel time and boost regional trade and mobility.

Residents and motorists have commended the pace of work and expressed optimism that the government’s renewed focus on the project will finally bring an end to years of hardship caused by the road’s deplorable condition.

With progress now visible on multiple fronts, the long-awaited transformation of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway appears well within reach, promising smoother rides, safer journeys and a tangible reflection of Governor Abiodun’s resolve to deliver enduring infrastructure for the people of Ogun State.
