Former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has dismissed rumours circulating on social media suggesting he had died, insisting he is alive, hale, and hearty.

The former governor, in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Friday, reassured the public of his wellbeing, describing the report as baseless and mischievous.

Obiano wrote:
“My beloved Ndi Anambra, friends, and well-wishers, I woke to hear a rumour making the rounds about my wellbeing.

Let me assure you personally: I am alive, hale, hearty, and in excellent health. By the special grace of God, I am doing very well.

It is unfortunate that some individuals still find joy in spreading falsehood for reasons yet to be established. But we will continue to rise above such mischief.”

He expressed gratitude to those who reached out to him with calls, messages, and prayers, urging the public to disregard the rumour entirely.

Meanwhile, his former Commissioner for Information, C. Don Adinuba, also debunked the claims, describing them as “false and mischievous.”

Adinuba said Obiano, who resides in Texas, United States, is “healthy, strong, and remarkably agile for someone who just turned 70.”

He likened the rumour to a similar incident involving Nigeria’s first President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, whose death was once falsely reported.

In a separate statement titled “Former Governor Willie Obiano is Alive, Healthy, and Kicking,” Adinuba added:
“This rumour has no basis. Chief Obiano is not only alive but in excellent health. We thank people from different walks of life, including leading international media like the BBC, for their interest in the former governor, whose large-heartedness and record of service delivery remain impressive.”
