A man has been confirmed dead following a crash involving a MAN Diesel truck and a motorcycle at Iyana-Ologbo, along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.

The accident, which occurred on Wednesday, involved a blue MAN Diesel truck with registration number EPE 513 YJ and a red BAJAJ Boxer motorcycle marked WDE 403 VQ.

Spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta. He explained that two people were involved in the crash, with one male adult dying on the spot while the other escaped unhurt.

Akinbiyi attributed the cause of the fatal crash to excessive speeding by the truck driver, who rear-ended the motorcycle. He added that the victim’s body had been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital morgue.

According to him, the traffic disruptions caused by the accident were swiftly managed by operatives of the Owode/Ijako TRACE Unit Command, supported by Ifo Motor Traffic Division officers.

Meanwhile, at least 15 people sustained injuries in a multiple accident on Monday at Omoyele Junction, along the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway.

The crash involved an unregistered Mack truck, a Toyota Highlander (AKD 29 JZ), a Suzuki minibus (popularly known as korope), and a motorcycle.

TRACE spokesperson Akinbiyi, who also confirmed the incident, said the victims consisted of 12 adult males and three adult females. He blamed the crash on excessive speeding by the truck driver, who lost control and rammed into the other vehicles.

Emergency responders, including TRACE operatives and the police, were on the scene for rescue efforts, while the affected vehicles were towed away to restore traffic flow.

In a separate incident, a container-laden truck crashed on Monday at Ijagun along the Ijebu-Ode–Benin Expressway.

Akinbiyi said operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) evacuated the victims to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode. He added that the crash caused significant traffic disruption as the truck blocked the entire road, prompting TRACE operatives to create a diversion at the Ijagun Express Junction for both inbound and outbound vehicles.

The TRACE spokesperson urged motorists to exercise caution and reduce speed to prevent further road traffic accidents.
