The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a circulating letter claiming that the commission approved the resolutions of a purported Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) meeting, which allegedly postponed the party’s Ekiti State Congress and governorship primary.

The rebuttal was issued on Friday in Abuja in a statement signed by Victoria Eta-Messi, the Director of Voter Education and Publicity.

INEC clarified that the document, dated November 10, 2025, did not originate from the Office of the Secretary to the Commission or any of its authorised communication channels.

According to the commission, preliminary investigations revealed that the signature of the Secretary to the Commission was forged by “unscrupulous elements.”

Describing the document as “entirely fake,” INEC urged political parties, journalists, and the general public to disregard its content in full. It warned that the circulation of forged electoral documents constitutes a serious offence and is a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.

The commission appealed to those responsible for such “futile, criminal, and disruptive activities” to desist in the interest of electoral integrity and national stability.

INEC added that it is working with security agencies to identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators in accordance with the law.
