The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected serial impostor, Victor Cletus, for allegedly posing as a medical doctor to defraud and sexually exploit a young woman.
Cletus, who was later identified as a cleaner at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan-Remo, reportedly presented himself as a surgeon on Snapchat, where he established contact with the victim.
Believing his claims, the victim confided in him regarding a health concern, a lump in her breast, and sought his medical advice. Instead of offering help, the suspect allegedly took advantage of her vulnerability, sexually assaulted her, and stole money from her Opay account.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday. She said the suspect was apprehended following a report lodged by the victim.
Odutola explained:
“Believing his fabricated credentials, she confided in him a medical concern involving a lump in her right breast.
Taking advantage of her vulnerability, the suspect fraudulently demanded money as a supposed operation fee and instructed her to meet him for a surgical procedure on 18/11/2025.
Instead of offering any medical help, he sexually abused her and stole money from her Opay account.”
According to the police, the victim became suspicious the next day when the suspect continued to demand sexual intimacy without conducting any medical examination or procedure. She independently contacted Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where she was shocked to learn that Cletus was not a doctor but a cleaner.
Odutola added that the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The Command cautioned members of the public—particularly young women—to exercise heightened vigilance on social media, where criminals increasingly disguise themselves with fake identities to lure, exploit, and extort unsuspecting victims.
Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned the act, warning impersonators and online predators that the Command will not tolerate any form of deception, exploitation, or sexual violence. He urged young women to be wary of confiding personal or medical information in strangers online.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to tracking, arresting, and prosecuting individuals who weaponise social media platforms to perpetrate crime.
