The Borno State Police Command has assisted a woman in recovering gold worth ₦23.6 million, which she buried in the ground while fleeing a Boko Haram attack in Mallam Fatori 15 years ago.

In a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, commended the Divisional Police Officer of Mallam Fatori and his team for their professionalism and integrity during the recovery process.

According to the statement, the woman recently returned to Mallam Fatori and approached the police for help in retrieving valuables she had hidden in the sand while escaping the insurgents.

Daso said the officers, through coordinated and diligent efforts, successfully recovered 22cc of gold valued at about ₦20 million, along with a gold bracelet and chain worth ₦3.6 million.

He added that the Commissioner praised the officers for displaying honesty, dedication and adherence to the core values of the Nigeria Police Force, a conduct he said would further boost public confidence in law enforcement.

“CP Naziru Abdulmajid reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue cooperating with the police to enhance security across the state,” the statement reads.
