The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, says Governor Ademola Adeleke will formally announce his new political party before December 13, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

It was earlier reported that Adeleke confirmed submitting his resignation letter to PDP executives in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.

Speaking on Rave FM in Osogbo on Tuesday, Alimi said the governor’s exit was compelled by prolonged internal crises within the PDP, particularly at the national level.

“The governor of Osun State and the Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party. He submitted his resignation letter long ago,” he said.

Alimi urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the administration, describing the move as necessary given the political realities ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

“We appreciate the people for their support and urge them to continue to stand by the governor. There is a Yoruba saying that the people are the true protectors of the leader,” he added.

Explaining the timing of the resignation, the commissioner noted that the national leadership tussle within the PDP posed a serious threat to Adeleke’s chances of securing a valid nomination for re-election.

“Had it not been for the crisis or division at the national level, which plays a crucial role in the nomination process, the governor would not have defected. INEC’s window for nomination closes on December 15, so the governor had to act,” Alimi said.

Responding to claims that the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Adeleke’s resignation, Alimi dismissed the speculation as deceptive.

“They’re pretending. They know what has hit them. Those causing problems for us within the PDP are doing so on behalf of other political parties,” he alleged.

“The APC in Osun thought the governor would remain in the PDP so they could use the national crisis to challenge his candidacy. But Adeleke is smarter than that, he’s always a step ahead.”

On Adeleke’s next political platform, Alimi said consultations were ongoing and an official announcement would come soon.

“Let’s take it one step at a time. He has resigned; the next move will be clear on or before December 12 or 13, because the deadline for party nominations and primaries is December 15,” he said.

Alimi stressed that the governor’s exit from the PDP was avoidable, but made inevitable by the party’s unresolved internal divisions.

“Had the PDP not been factionalised at the national level, there would have been no reason for Governor Adeleke to resign,” he said.
