Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu’s development agenda in Ogun Central came under the spotlight as his Special Assistant, Hon. Timothy Odedina, outlined a series of ongoing reforms in education, healthcare, infrastructure and youth empowerment across the district.
Speaking during a political forum on Family FM 88.5, Odedina underscored the strategic role of the Senate in shaping national policy and ensuring that the voices of constituents are heard at the highest level of government. He argued that quality representation directly influences the level of development communities enjoy.
“The Senate is where the needs of the people are translated into actionable laws and policies,” he said. “A senator’s effectiveness determines how well citizens’ concerns are prioritised.”
Odedina urged the public to remain informed and involved in governance, stressing that democracy flourishes when citizens actively question, engage and contribute to the decision-making process. “Government must listen, but citizens must also speak up,” he added.
Monitoring the programme, Family FM’s Senior Correspondent, Segun Omotanbaje, reports that Odedina used the platform to detail several initiatives Senator Salisu has introduced since assuming office, initiatives he said reflect a deliberate push for inclusive growth across Ogun Central.
On education, the aide highlighted the renovation of public schools, capacity-building programmes for students, ICT training, and scholarships designed to equip young people with digital-era competencies. These efforts, he said, aim to close skill gaps and strengthen the district’s human capital.
In the health sector, Senator Salisu has supported medical outreach missions, upgraded facilities in primary health centres, and facilitated the provision of essential equipment to underserved communities. According to Odedina, these interventions are already improving access to quality healthcare and reducing preventable illnesses.
Roads and infrastructure also featured prominently in the discussion. Odedina noted that improved road networks within the district have opened up rural areas, boosted local trade and eased the movement of farmers and residents. He added that Senator Salisu continues to push for increased federal presence through budgetary provisions and constituency projects.
Youth empowerment, he said, remains one of the senator’s core priorities, with vocational training, digital skills programmes, entrepreneurship support and empowerment initiatives benefitting hundreds of young people across Ogun Central.
Beyond constituency projects, Odedina stated that Senator Salisu has been vocal on national issues, championing policies that strengthen security, protect citizens’ rights and promote economic stability. He described the senator as “a public servant committed to transparent and people-centred governance.”
He called on residents of Ogun Central to remain engaged, follow government actions closely and continue holding leaders accountable, noting that democracy “grows stronger when both leaders and citizens commit to progress.”
