The boyfriend of the late Federal Road Safety Corps officer, Lasisi Funmilayo, and her daughter, Sewa, has admitted luring the victims to their deaths in Osun State, claiming he acted on the advice of a cleric who told him the deceased had “used his glory.”
The suspect, Victor Fajemirokun, 40, was paraded on Wednesday alongside two herbalists, Gboyega Daramola and Sunday James, at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo.
The victims, earlier declared missing in Ogun State, were found dead with their bodies mutilated at a suspected ritualists’ den in Ijebu-Jesa.
Speaking with journalists, Fajemirokun said he invited Funmilayo from Ogun to Ijebu-Jesa after an Islamic cleric allegedly told him she was responsible for his misfortune.
“I met one Gboyega on TikTok. He did a consultation and said Funmilayo was behind my problems. So he asked me to come with her,” he said.
According to him, the deceased agreed to accompany him for “spiritual cleansing.”
“When we got there, Gboyega said she needed to perform some rituals and instructed three men to take her into the bush. That was where she was killed. Her daughter followed us too,” he said.
The suspect admitted fleeing to a mountain in Ikoyi and later to Ibadan, claiming he acted under “hypnosis.”
“I never intended to kill her. I didn’t know they harvested organs. I only heard that in the news,” he added.
One of the herbalists, Sunday James, confessed to participating in the killings and described how the victims were murdered.
“My boss told me that Victor had gone to an alfa who said his woman friend used his glory. He came for them to kill his wife and child,” James said.
“So my boss ordered me to kill them and threatened me. We took them into the bush and used a knife to slit their throats. After that, we cut the woman into pieces.”
Daramola, the principal herbalist, however, denied being present but admitted that Fajemirokun brought the victims for ritual purposes.
Osun Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, said Fajemirokun himself had initially been declared missing on November 2 in Ikoyi, Osun, after he reportedly went to a mountain for prayers.
He said intelligence-led investigation led to the arrest of Daramola on November 16.
“During interrogation, Daramola confessed that Victor brought a woman and her daughter on November 2 for money rituals and that they had been killed,” Gotan said.
Daramola later led detectives to Esa-Odo Dam, where Funmilayo’s decomposing body was recovered. Her head, breasts, hands, and private parts were missing.
Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Sunday James in Ekiti State on November 20. He confessed to killing both victims and led police to the shallow grave where Sewa’s remains were recovered, also without vital organs.
Gotan added that Fajemirokun, who fled to Ghana, was tracked and arrested with the assistance of INTERPOL before being repatriated to Nigeria.
The CP said two other suspects, identified as Kehinde and Idowu, who allegedly butchered the bodies, are still at large.
He assured that all involved would face prosecution and that investigations were ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
