The twenty Local Government Chairmen in Ogun State, under the auspices of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), have commended Governor Prince Dapo Oluwaseun Abiodun for the comprehensive overhaul of the Government Technical College in Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area.
The council bosses, who were in the Ijebu North area for a meeting in Ago-Iwoye, undertook a facility tour of the college as part of their inspection of ongoing and completed projects across the state.
Led by the State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo, PhD, the delegation was received and guided by the college Principal, Mrs Falola Ifeoluwa, and the Vice Principal, Mrs Adesegun Olusola.
Expressing the collective sentiment of the chairmen, Hon. Adeyemo described the institution as a testament to the Governor’s vision. “Our visit to this masterpiece educational institution in Ijebu-Igbo was truly an eye-opener. It was revealing, inspiring, and a clear testament to our Governor’s unwavering commitment to the educational sector. Enormous resources have been invested in this facility, reflecting a vision for quality learning and future readiness,” she stated.
Adeyemo further thanked Governor Abiodun on behalf of the council chairmen, praising his administration’s widespread infrastructure development and his efforts in “reviving the local government administration professionally in the state.”
The Principal, Mrs Falola Ifeoluwa, provided deeper insight into the Governor’s impact on technical education. “His Excellency has greatly been supportive by spending a lot on reviving technical Education in Ogun State,” she said. “From our own end, we must rally support for Mr Governor by giving our best to the learners and putting all the facilities and equipment into use carefully and judiciously.”
She added a strong endorsement of the administration’s work in education, stating, “Equally, I must not mince words, Mr Governor has done more than enough in the Education Sector in our state and I can confirm to you that Ogun State now operates World Class Technical [education], and this could be seen in the standard of projects that is ongoing here, courtesy of our Education-Friendly Governor.”
During the inspection, the ALGON chairmen were shown a range of newly installed and upgraded facilities designed for modern vocational training. These include:
· A dedicated sector for Animal Husbandry and Livestock
· Fully equipped Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories
· Specialised workshops for six vocational trades
· Functional ICT laboratories powered by an alternative electricity supply to ensure uninterrupted learning
This college is part of a broader state-wide initiative, with a total of eight vocational training colleges currently undergoing similar rehabilitation and upgrade across Ogun State.
Impressed by the scale and quality of the project, the local government chairmen pledged their unwavering support to the administration. They promised their “continued support as members of this administration” and an “unalloyed commitment to the growth of the grassroots.”
Hon. Adeyemo also announced that ALGON would “prepare a comprehensive report on all our findings and ensure the information is duly amplified in the media” to showcase the developmental strides.
The transformation of the Government Technical College, Ijebu Igbo, underscores the Abiodun administration’s commitment to its “Building Our Future Together” agenda, with a sharp focus on revitalising technical education to build a skilled workforce and drive economic growth in Ogun State.
