The Federal Government has secured the release of 100 pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.

The development, reported on Sunday by TVC News and Channels Television, comes more than two weeks after gunmen launched a deadly overnight assault on the remote community. Federal authorities were yet to issue an official statement as of press time.

The attackers, who invaded the school on motorcycles around 2 a.m. on November 21, reportedly operated unhindered for nearly three hours. They abducted 315 people in total — 303 students and 12 teachers.

Approximately 50 pupils escaped within the first 24 hours of the incident and were later reunited with their families, leaving 265 victims in captivity. With the latest development, 100 more have now regained freedom, though details of the rescue effort remain unclear.

Efforts to secure the release of the remaining victims are ongoing.
