According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the arrest followed widespread public outrage over the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
The police said the suspect’s actions posed a grave threat to public safety and necessitated immediate intervention.

The command described the act as extremely dangerous, noting that it could have resulted in fatal consequences for both the suspect and innocent members of the public.
“His actions amount to a deliberate and reckless endangerment of life and constitute a serious threat to public safety,” the statement added.
The police further disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive investigation.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators, and the general public against using online platforms to engage in or promote unlawful conduct.
“The Commissioner of Police strongly warns social media influencers and members of the public to desist from using social media platforms to engage in or promote reckless, dangerous, unlawful, or criminal acts,” the statement noted.
He emphasised that such behaviour would no longer be tolerated and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to enforcing the law without fear or favour.
“Such lawlessness will not be condoned. The full weight of the law will be applied to any offender. The Command also urges all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations and remains committed to ensuring public peace and safety at all times.”
