Top officials of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) and the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) have embarked on a road safety sensitisation drive, urging commercial motorcycle riders in the state to strictly adhere to traffic regulations during the festive period.
The officials made the call during a visit to the Ogun State Secretariat of the Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) in Abeokuta, where they addressed members of the union at an extended state executive meeting.
During the sensitisation session, the riders were warned against carrying more than one passenger, riding under the influence of alcohol and operating motorcycles without proper documentation. They were also advised to ensure their motorcycles are duly registered and identifiable to promote safety and accountability on the roads.
Speaking separately at the meeting, the Acting Commander-General of TRACE, Commander Omonayago E.A. and the Ogun State Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Engr. Gbenga Ademeyin, stressed the need for riders to observe safety precautions before, during and after the festive season.
They noted that an accident-free celebration was achievable if all road users exercised caution and complied with traffic rules. The officials commended AMORAN members for their law-abiding disposition, orderly appearance and improved conduct on the roads.
While assuring continued collaboration with the union, the TRACE and VIO leadership warned that both agencies would not hesitate to sanction commercial motorcycle operators found engaging in overloading, reckless riding or violation of traffic regulations.
In his response, the Ogun State Secretary of AMORAN, Comrade Kamal Oluwatoyin Kelani, appreciated the visit, describing it as timely and necessary. He assured the agencies that the union’s leadership would ensure strict compliance with all stipulated traffic rules by its members.
Similarly, the Deputy Chairman of AMORAN, Comrade Kazeem Lawal, commended TRACE and VIO for their proactive approach to road safety ahead of the festive season, pledging the union’s commitment to enforcing discipline and adherence to traffic laws among riders.
Officials present at the sensitisation visit included Commander Omonayago E.A., Acting Commander-General of TRACE; Engr. Gbenga Ademeyin, Chief VIO, Ogun State; Engr. Odunaya Adekunle, Deputy Chief VIO; and Engr. Omisakin Babatunde, a director from the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation.
