The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has warned motorists against reckless and uncoordinated driving during the yuletide season, urging road users to prioritise safety to prevent avoidable accidents.
The South-West Zonal Commander of TRACE, Mr Adekunle Ajibade, issued the warning on Monday while speaking with newsmen in Ota.
Ajibade said the caution was necessary given the surge in vehicular movement during the festive period, stressing that “life has no duplicate.”
He urged motorists embarking on long journeys to ensure adequate rest, warning that driving while fatigued or sleepy could result in fatal accidents.
“We advise motorists to stop at safe places to rest whenever they feel tired. They should also ensure that all vehicle components, especially the braking system, are in good working condition and reduce their speed, because speed kills,” he said.
The TRACE commander further appealed to drivers to obey traffic rules and regulations, avoid drunk driving, and cooperate with TRACE officials and other traffic management agencies to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the festive season.
The warning comes against the backdrop of the traditionally high rate of road accidents during Nigeria’s yuletide period, often caused by increased traffic volume, speeding, fatigue and reckless driving.
