…says effort put in place to protect lives and properties
The Ijebu North Local Government (INLG) Peace and Security Committee has reaffirmed the 8pm deadline for all carnivals, parties and social events across the local government area, alongside a standing 10pm ban on commercial motorcycle (okada) operations.
The committee also restated that riding okada without valid plate numbers remains prohibited.
These resolutions were reiterated at a Peace and Security meeting held on Tuesday at the Ijebu North Local Government Secretariat, Ijebu Igbo.
Addressing the meeting, the Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Hon. Bolaji Odusanya, urged residents to comply strictly with the existing security measures, stressing that all carnivals, parties and social gatherings must end by 8pm until further notice.
The committee emphasised that the security of lives and property is a shared responsibility between government and citizens, while reaffirming the readiness and commitment of the local government and security agencies to protect lives, property and investments within Ijebu North.
Representatives of conventional security agencies, alongside operatives of the Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun), assured the committee of their continued enforcement of the ban, particularly the arrest of okada riders who conceal their faces or tamper with motorcycle plate numbers.
Meanwhile, the council boss approved a temporary relaxation of the ban on night parties on December 24 (Christmas Eve) and December 31 (New Year’s Eve), following a unanimous agreement by members of the Peace and Security Committee.
Odusanya, however, cautioned residents to celebrate responsibly during the festive period and adhere to all other security guidelines put in place to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration in the local government area.
