The Ogun and Lagos State Governments have confirmed that British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a road traffic accident on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

In a joint statement issued by the two state governments, the vehicle conveying Joshua and three other occupants reportedly collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the death of two persons.

The governments expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as tragic, and prayed for strength and comfort for those affected by the loss.

According to the statement, Anthony Joshua and another passenger sustained injuries and were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos.

Following thorough medical examinations, doctors confirmed that both patients are in stable condition and do not require emergency medical intervention at this time.

The statement further disclosed that Joshua is conscious and has been in contact with his family, while a full medical team has been assembled to continue monitoring his condition and that of the other survivor.

Both the Ogun and Lagos State Governments assured the public that they are closely monitoring the situation to ensure that all affected persons receive the best possible medical care. Investigations have also commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The governments thanked members of the public for their concern and appealed for privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family during this period.

The joint statement was signed by the Ogun State Special Adviser on Information, Kayode Akinmade, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso.
