A top official of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed rumours suggesting that Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen is set to leave the team’s camp at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the reported disagreement between Osimhen and teammate Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s Round of 16 clash against Mozambique has been fully resolved.

The clarification was made public by FIFA and CAF-accredited journalist, Adepoju Samuel, who disclosed details of his conversation with the NFF official via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.

According to Samuel, the official said, “Everything has been sorted since last night, and we are all good. There was no discussion about Osimhen leaving the tournament. The issue has been resolved as a family.”

The reassurance follows widespread reactions from fans after Osimhen was seen angrily confronting Lookman during the 4–0 victory over Mozambique on Monday.

The Galatasaray striker was captured on camera in the 63rd minute expressing frustration after Lookman missed a scoring opportunity despite Osimhen being unmarked. The footage showed Osimhen pulling away from captain Wilfred Ndidi, pointing angrily at Lookman, and shouting at his teammate. He was also heard saying in pidgin, “No try am again,” meaning “do not try that again.”

At the time of the incident, Lookman had already created two clear chances for Osimhen, one resulting in a direct assist and another through Akor Adams.

Osimhen later requested to be substituted and was replaced by Moses Simon, drawing boos from sections of the crowd as he left the pitch.

The incident sparked intense debate on social media, with many fans questioning Osimhen’s reaction despite Nigeria’s commanding performance.

However, further signs of unity emerged on Tuesday when Lookman shared photos of himself alongside Osimhen and Bruno Onyemaechi from the match on his official Instagram page, captioned: “TOGETHER ALWAYS.”

In addition, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle and team captain Wilfred Ndidi have both played down reports of any lingering disagreement, urging Nigerians to continue supporting the team as they prepare for their quarter-final clash against either Algeria or DR Congo.
