Nigeria’s Super Eagles booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with an impressive 2–0 victory over Algeria at the Stade de Marrakech on Friday night.

The win sets up a mouth-watering last-four clash against tournament hosts Morocco, who edged Cameroon in their quarter-final encounter.

Nigeria came into the contest full of confidence following a commanding 4–0 demolition of Mozambique in the Round of 16, having scored 12 goals in four matches — the highest tally at the tournament so far. Algeria, on the other hand, arrived unbeaten, with a reputation for defensive solidity after conceding just once in their previous four games.

From the opening exchanges, the Super Eagles asserted their authority, dominating possession and pressing aggressively high up the pitch. Victor Osimhen spearheaded the attack with pace and physicality, supported by Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, while Alex Iwobi dictated play from midfield, seamlessly linking defence to attack.

Nigeria created several clear-cut chances in the first half. Akor Adams squandered a one-on-one opportunity and saw another effort dramatically cleared off the line, as Algeria remained resilient, largely thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Luca Zidane.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the second half when Osimhen rose highest to power home a commanding header, giving Nigeria a deserved lead.

The Super Eagles maintained their dominance and doubled their advantage when Akor Adams finished clinically after a well-timed assist from Osimhen, effectively putting the contest beyond Algeria’s reach.

Wilfred Ndidi anchored the midfield superbly, breaking up Algerian advances, while Nigeria’s full-backs and wide players stretched the opposition defence, creating space for the forwards to exploit.

Despite late substitutions by Algeria in a bid to mount a comeback, Nigeria’s defensive discipline and composure ensured they remained firmly in control until the final whistle.

The Super Eagles now turn their attention to a crucial semi-final showdown against hosts Morocco as their quest for continental glory continues.
