Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnanu, widely known by her stage name Omije Ojumi, is dead.

Her passing was announced on Tuesday in a statement issued by her family and shared on the Instagram page of fellow gospel artiste, Alayo Melody.

Alayo Melody also shared a short video clip showing the late singer receiving medical care at the hospital where she eventually passed away.

The family statement read in part:
“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (Omije Ojumi). She passed away on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest.”

The statement was signed by Olawale Akinnanu on behalf of the family.

Akinnanu’s death comes months after she publicly appealed for prayers and divine healing while battling a severe leg ailment. In a video that went viral at the time, the singer was seen seated with her affected leg stretched out as a pastor prayed for her.

The late gospel minister began her music journey at the age of 10 and later left a career in banking to pursue gospel music full-time.
She rose to prominence with her hit song Omije Ojumi, which resonated deeply with Christian audiences and became a regular feature in churches and homes across Nigeria.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
