Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has dismissed reports alleging a confrontation between him and the Council of Afobajes over the ongoing process of selecting a new Awujale of Ijebu, describing such claims as false, misleading and deliberately concocted.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, the governor said the narratives circulating in some quarters were a distortion of facts aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary tension around the revered traditional institution.

According to the statement, Governor Abiodun recently held a consultative meeting with members of the Council of Afobajes, similar to previous engagements he had with the Olori Ebis, which helped resolve internal disagreements and restore harmony within the traditional council.

The government noted that through such earlier interventions, the governor successfully persuaded one of the kingmakers to withdraw a pending litigation, underscoring his preference for dialogue, reconciliation and respect for traditional processes.

“The meeting was conducted in a respectful atmosphere and focused strictly on issues of mutual concern in the interest of peace, unity and progress of traditional institutions in Ijebuland,” the statement said.

Governor Abiodun categorically denied allegations that he issued threats or ultimatums during the meeting, stressing that statements attributed to him,  including the claim that he declared “No Kuye, No Awujale”, were entirely fabricated.

“At no point did the governor make such statements. No member of the Afobajes’ council can attest to such an occurrence because it never happened. These are nothing but the handiwork of mischief makers bent on peddling falsehoods,” the statement added.

Reaffirming his position, the governor said his administration remains committed to due process, the autonomy of traditional institutions and a fair, transparent selection process for the new Awujale of Ijebu.

The statement further emphasized that Governor Abiodun holds the Awujale stool in the highest esteem, a respect he has consistently demonstrated through his actions and engagements.

Members of the public, traditional stakeholders and the media were urged to disregard unfounded insinuations and rely only on verified information from official and credible sources.

The statement was dated January 21, 2026 and signed by Mr. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy.
