President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held separate meetings with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The two governors arrived at the State House at different times, with Governor Mutfwang arriving at about 3:00 p.m., while Governor Makinde arrived around 3:30 p.m., our correspondent observed.
The meetings come amid ongoing political realignments, as key political actors intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Makinde, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), remains one of the few PDP governors yet to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), despite a wave of defections that has weakened the opposition.
The Oyo State governor is widely believed to be nursing presidential ambitions and is reportedly positioning himself for the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket.
Governor Mutfwang, on the other hand, recently defected from the PDP to the APC, joining the growing list of opposition figures who have crossed over to the ruling party. Thursday’s meeting marked his first known engagement with President Tinubu since his defection.
In recent months, President Tinubu has held a series of meetings with governors across party lines, a development widely seen as part of broader political consultations ahead of the next general elections.
