Former Ogun State Governor and Senator, Ibikunle Amosun, is set to formally declare his intention to return to the Senate, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The declaration is scheduled for Sunday and will coincide with activities marking his birthday.

Sources within the former governor’s political camp disclosed that extensive mobilisation has been put in place ahead of the announcement. According to the sources, funds have been disbursed across wards in the Ogun Central Senatorial District to galvanise supporters and ensure a large turnout for the declaration event.

Amosun, who served two terms as governor of Ogun State between 2011 and 2019, is reportedly seeking to contest the Senate seat on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), although he is expected to remain in the All Progressives Congress (APC) pending the formal switch.

The planned move is said to be part of a broader political realignment involving his preferred governorship aspirant, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola, who is also currently a member of the APC. Both political heavyweights are expected to officially join the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections to contest the Senate and governorship seats respectively.

A close aide to the former governor confirmed the development, saying, “The Senator is prepared to continue his service and provide impactful representation for the people. His birthday celebration will also serve as a moment of thanksgiving and political reaffirmation.”

The development signals a fresh phase of political activity in Ogun State as preparations for the next election cycle gather momentum.
