The Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held on November 15, 2025.
The court also restrained Kabiru Turaki and others from parading themselves as national officers of the party, dealing a major setback to the faction that emerged from the convention.
Despite deep-seated internal disputes, the PDP had proceeded with its two-day 2025 Elective National Convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan. Branded #Ibadan2025, the convention attracted thousands of delegates, party leaders and supporters from across the country.
The ruling is the latest development in the prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP, which has resulted in parallel factions and multiple legal battles over the party’s national leadership and internal processes.
Reacting to the judgment, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, in a statement posted on the party’s official X handle on Friday, said the party was awaiting the final determination of the appellate courts, expressing confidence that its position would be upheld.
Ememobong urged party members to remain calm and steadfast, insisting there was “absolutely no cause for alarm,” while maintaining that the party’s rebirth movement remains on course.
“Notwithstanding this judgment, the Kabiru Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party that emerged from the Ibadan Convention remains legally intact and unshaken as we await the authoritative pronouncement of the appellate courts,” the statement read.
As the matter heads to the appellate court, stakeholders within the party and the wider political space are expected to closely monitor the outcome, which could significantly influence the PDP’s direction ahead of future political engagements.
