One person has reportedly died following a clash between enforcement officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and military personnel over the demolition of illegal structures in Orile-Imo, Obafemi-Owode Local Council.

The deceased, identified as Oluwaseyi Adeoye, was allegedly shot during a heated argument between ministry workers and the soldiers. He was rushed to the State General Hospital, Ijaiye, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Adeoye was part of a team deployed on Monday, February 23, 2026, to remove illegal structures in the area.

According to one of the officials, Makinde Ibrahim, the team was confronted by military personnel who warned them not to proceed with the demolition. The team leader, known as Hazmat, insisted on continuing the exercise, which escalated tensions and led to the fatal incident.

“They actually wanted to kill everyone, but we had to scamper for safety,” Ibrahim said. “The engineer on site begged, but the leader insisted we pull down three coaches. A soldier ordered us to leave, but we were told to carry out our duty. Even the seven police officers with us could not intervene.”

The Chairman of the Concrete Dealers Association, Kolawole Obadeyi, blamed the clash on the team leader, arguing that he should have withdrawn when military personnel were present and called for reinforcements to secure the team’s safety.

“It was shocking that we lost Oluwaseyi over a N10,000 daily job. He only went out to earn a living. This is unfortunate,” Obadeyi added.

Tunji Odulami, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, described Adeoye’s death as unfortunate and assured that security agencies had been contacted to apprehend the culprit.

“We are working with all security agencies to identify those responsible. Such an incident must not happen again,” Odulami said, offering condolences to the family and promising compensation.

Ogun State Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident and said the police have launched an investigation.

“I can confirm that an officer attached to the Ministry of Planning was shot dead. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrator, who will face the full wrath of the law,” Babaseyi said.
