The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has reaffirmed that electricity supply across the country has improved, in line with his earlier assurance of measurable progress within two weeks.

Adelabu attributed the development largely to increased gas supply to power plants, noting that the improvement reflects ongoing reforms and enhanced coordination within the power sector.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, the Minister disclosed that power generation recorded steady gains between March 28 and April 10, 2026. Output rose from about 3,951 megawatts to over 4,300 megawatts within the period.

He explained that the uptick was driven primarily by a rise in gas supply to thermal power plants, which increased from approximately 605 million standard cubic feet per day to over 704 million standard cubic feet per day.

Adelabu added that improved mechanical and operational availability of generation assets also contributed to more stable electricity output nationwide.

“Despite minor fluctuations recorded on some days, the overall trajectory points to a gradual recovery in the power sector, driven largely by improved gas supply and better coordination among critical stakeholders,” he said.

The Minister emphasised the strong correlation between gas availability and electricity generation, stressing the need for sustained interventions across the gas-to-power value chain.

To consolidate recent gains, he revealed that a Gas-to-Power Monitoring Committee has been inaugurated to strengthen coordination, address bottlenecks, and ensure real-time tracking of gas supply to generation companies.

According to him, the committee will deepen collaboration between gas producers and power generation firms, with the aim of delivering more stable electricity across the country.

“We are not there yet, but we will continue to ensure measurable improvements,” Adelabu added.

Meanwhile, the Minister charged the new management of the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency to boost its internally generated revenue and reduce dependence on government funding.

He gave the directive during a meeting in Abuja with the agency’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Olusegun Adesayo, and Board Chairman, Ikechi Nwosu.

Adelabu also called for the establishment of additional meter testing centres nationwide and highlighted the urgent need to address manpower shortages, particularly among meter installers.

He further advocated closer collaboration between the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria and NEMSA to bridge skills gaps and support ongoing metering expansion efforts.
