Organized Labour has announced a five-day suspension of its nationwide strike to facilitate uninterrupted meetings with the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage.
A source within the Labour leadership disclosed this development to newsmen.
The decision follows a successful meeting on Monday between Labour leaders, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, and other government officials. During the meeting, it was resolved that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to a new minimum wage exceeding N60,000.
The parties also agreed that the Tripartite Committee will convene daily over the next week to reach a consensus on the National Minimum Wage.
The strike suspension was confirmed during today’s 10 am meeting with the FG Tripartite Committee.
As a result of this development, all government and private offices are expected to resume normal operations.
