Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has declared that the state will deliver 95 per cent of its votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, insisting that the President deserves a second term in recognition of the transformative economic reforms being implemented by his administration.

Abiodun made the declaration on Friday during a strategic meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Presidential Lodge, Ibara, Abeokuta.

The governor said President Tinubu’s economic policies have begun repositioning Nigeria for long-term growth and prosperity, adding that the administration has laid a solid foundation for sustainable national development.

He also applauded APC members in Ogun State for conducting peaceful and rancour-free primary elections, describing the process as a remarkable demonstration of political maturity and party cohesion.

According to him, the success recorded during the primaries stemmed from the unity, discipline, and mutual trust among party leaders and members across the state.

“Our primary election was inclusive, transparent, and fair. It was made possible by the commitment of our leaders and the confidence we have in one another. Such a process is unprecedented in the history of our state.

“We came together, deliberated, and arrived at a consensus without acrimony. It reflects the high level of political maturity that exists in Ogun State. While many aspirants sought various positions, only one person could emerge. Those who stepped down in the interest of party unity are the true heroes of this process,” the governor said.

Speaking on the selection of a running mate for the APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, Abiodun disclosed that the party had unanimously agreed to zone the deputy governorship position to Ogun East Senatorial District, specifically the Ijebu axis, in line with principles of fairness and inclusivity.

He explained that the decision became necessary because the party’s governorship candidate hails from Ogun West Senatorial District.

“We recognise the need to commence political activities in earnest, and only one key position remains to be filled—the office of the Deputy Governor. After extensive consultations with party leaders, it was agreed that the position should go to Ogun East.

“Since I have emerged as the senatorial candidate for Ogun East and I am from Remoland, it was considered equitable that the Ijebu people should produce the Deputy Governor.

“We have also reached substantial agreement on the area within Ijebuland that should produce the candidate, and that is the Ijebu-Ode Federal Constituency. That was one of the major reasons for convening today’s meeting,” he stated.

The governor congratulated the people of Ogun West Senatorial District on producing the APC governorship candidate for the forthcoming election, noting that the development had broken a more than five-decade-old political barrier in the state.

He described the emergence of Senator Adeola as a significant milestone in Ogun’s political history and a testament to the APC’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and balanced power-sharing among the state’s three senatorial districts.

On security, Abiodun assured residents that his administration would intensify efforts to combat kidnapping and banditry through the deployment of technology-driven security solutions and enhanced intelligence gathering.

He stressed the need for a robust security architecture capable of safeguarding lives and property, particularly children and other vulnerable groups.

The governor further stated that while his administration has made substantial investments in infrastructure development across the state, greater attention would now be directed toward human capital development and social intervention programmes aimed at mitigating the impact of prevailing economic challenges on residents.

He reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of the people and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every segment of society.

Earlier in his welcome address, the APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, commended party members for their exemplary conduct before, during, and after the primary elections.

Sanusi said the meeting was convened to strengthen party unity and strategise ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the APC would record another resounding victory at the polls.
