The Ogun state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has issued a strong caution against the participation of Ogun State youths in an unauthorized assembly tagged the “Ogun State Youth Parliament.” The announcement was made today at the Ogun Youth House, MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
In a statement signed by Comrade Yinus Fatai, the Ogun Youth Spokesman, the Youth Council acknowledged the enthusiasm of the state’s youth in governance and civic engagement but emphasized that the formal establishment of the Youth Parliament is still in progress.
The process to institutionalize the Youth Parliament was initiated during a meeting between the NYCN and Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun on August 16, 2022. The council reassured the public that this initiative is being advanced in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the Department for Youth Development to ensure a transparent and legally recognized structure.
“We urge all Ogun State youth to exercise caution and avoid involvement in any unconstitutional assembly,” the statement read. “Such actions could lead to unintended consequences and disrupt public peace.”
The NYCN reaffirmed its commitment to fostering youth empowerment and promoting participation in governance through legitimate means. Security agencies were also called upon to monitor the situation and prevent any unlawful activities arising from what was described as potential “acts of rascality.”
The council concluded by reiterating its dedication to transparency and due process in the establishment of the Ogun State Youth Parliament, urging youths to remain patient as the initiative is finalized.
