President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday declared a national security emergency and directed the immediate recruitment of additional security personnel to confront escalating insecurity across the country.
In a statement issued from the State House, the President ordered the Nigeria Police Force to commence the recruitment of 20,000 new officers, raising the total number of planned police intakes to 50,000.
To fast-track the process, President Tinubu also authorised the temporary use of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps as training facilities for the new recruits, pending the expansion and upgrade of existing police training institutions.
The President said the measures were part of a broader security overhaul aimed at strengthening national stability and restoring public confidence in the country’s security architecture.
