Gunmen have reportedly killed a former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs. Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as Aunty Kitan, alongside her security guard at her residence in Agodo community along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway.
The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, has thrown family members, friends, colleagues and residents into mourning.
The bodies of the deceased were subsequently evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
Although the circumstances surrounding the killings were still unclear as of the time of filing this report, a source familiar with the incident told our correspondent that church members were the first to discover the gruesome scene.
According to the source, the church members became concerned after Mrs. Oyesiku failed to attend a church programme and could not be reached.
“What we heard was that some church members went to check on her after noticing her absence in church. When they arrived at her residence, they found the security guard dead. Further checks revealed that Mrs. Oyesiku had also been killed by the assailants. They immediately raised the alarm, which attracted members of the community,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command was aware of the development and would issue an official statement after preliminary investigations.
The late Oyesiku was a respected broadcaster who served with the state-owned television station before her retirement. Widely known as Aunty Kitan, she was admired by colleagues and viewers alike for her contributions to the media industry.
News of her death has since sparked an outpouring of grief across Ogun State, with many describing the killings as shocking and tragic. Authorities are expected to commence a full investigation to unravel the circumstances behind the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.
